KANGIN’S LOVE & LIFE
Kangin is much more different in real life than what you would have expected from his image. He looks spunky and cold but he’s playful and genuine. He took the first step and talked to the staff he met for the first time one by one, and everyone could see him taking care of them well. He had a minor injury, but he still worked hard and expressed himself well. He is so different from his role of musician Donghoon in his movie Cat Funeral.
1. Time flies, it’s 2015 now. What did you do during New Year?
Super Junior performed in China. It feels strange spending it with members after 2 years of spending it at home. In the waiting room, members were cheering for those around them to be healthy. Seems like everyone is much more particular about health these days.
2. You filmed a movie Cat Funeral amongst your busy schedules as a singer.
The filming didn’t proceed leisurely. It had an autumn backdrop and winter was coming so while filming, there was lots of snow and wind. This is a production that I’m challenging, 6 years after Hello, Schoolgirl, so I had a delightful time filming.
3. You felt “It was smoother than expected, without any major incidents” after trying it.
I like the smoothness. Rather than because of the relationship between a man and a woman, we fought (in the movie) over a trivial matter. When there’s emotional disagreement, it’s infuriating when small actions are disliked and needlessly picked on. The female colleagues who saw this movie also cried over this scene, I take it as if I’ve received the best compliments.
4. How much of the movie do you identify with?
For example, the scene where Donghoon sang to Jaehee (Park Seyoung) at the wedding ceremony as if they’re falling in love under the first snow. I’m the kind that doesn’t believe in fate in love. Especially falling in love under the first snow…. Although I ever had such an experience in the past, but after gaining age I think to myself “Will this get to happen to me?” So being in such a situation, realistically speaking, the day won’t come. I have ever thought of doing this at my wedding ceremony with my favourite people, if I wasn’t a celebrity.
5. It’s a situation of lovers raising a pet together.
This is very possible. There are such cases within people I know, I also have heard of couples who meet again after breaking up because of missing the pet that they raised together. In the past, I ever gifted a puppy to my lover, and even after breaking up, for a long time I was curious on how the puppy is doing.

6. You went through your stormy 20s and now you’re in your 30s. Are there changes in your fitness?
No matter what, I must sleep in order to have energy. But my other members around the same age are all like that too. Good food enters and leaves my body well. (Laughs) To be honest I think I don’t even reach the maturity level of someone in his mid-twenties. So I feel very awkward when juniors refer to me as “big senior”.
7. There certainly must have been changes from your 20s.
My mindset. I know there’s no point trying to deceive oneself and nothing good will come out of it. Last time, I just briefly took care of everyone to be liked, but now I have the mindset of sincerely responding no matter who contacts me, even if it’s once in a while.
8. What are your thoughts on marriage?
I want to get married after I get my desired outcome financially and career-wise; I haven’t reached my goal get. My friends want to say to my future wife “I really hope you marry an attentive man” , and I want to be such a good person before starting a family.
9. Children are very beautiful.
Really! Because of children, I must get married. Last time, I wanted a son but recently I really like daughters a lot. Although to have a chance to have a family, I have to first build one with my wife in future, I really have confidence in taking care of my children well.
10. A chance for misunderstood Kim Youngwoon. What do you want to say?
I want to show a bit more of what kind of person I am. I’m more emotional and simple than you’d think. I’ve always been bad at being expressive. Now I want to meet everyone without a mask. And it’s 10 years since my debut, I want to repay everyone for the love I’ve been receiving from them so far.
11. There’s great interest in your welfare activities, when will you let us go together with you?
If there’s anywhere that needs me, I’ll actively attend. Instyle can do a charity edition for me anytime. It’s not empty words, if there really is a chance I’ll call you immediately.

WHAT WOMEN SAY
Chae Jeongan – ‘Hello Schoolgirl’ movie
“I have memories of when I filmed mellow scenes with Kangin who is younger than me; I was feeling good and nervous while filming. It’s nice to see the image of him working hard without constraint.”
Park Seyoung – ‘Cat Funeral’ movie
“I’m someone who’s more quiet and my character doesn’t stand out, and I felt in my heart oppa comfortably engaging with me, and I gradually started to take after him. I really enjoyed working with him.”
HIS BEST MOVIES
When I was a child I went to the cinema holding my parents’ hands. There’s one piece that stole my youth. I watched it at least 10 times, the movie that fostered Kangin’s dream of being an actor.
1. ‘Perfect World’ (1993)
“It’s a movie watched during my childhood but it’s a piece that’s unforgettable. Jailbreaker Kevin Cosnor making friends with a kidnapped youth.”
2. ‘Springtime’ (2004)
“‘Hello Schoolgirl’ is Director Ryu Jeonghan’s debut work. Even before meeting him, I liked him so much I had the DVD of the movie. Seems like it did very well because of every single director involved in the filming.”
3. ‘If Only’ (2004)
“It’s a movie I like very much. No matter how, I can’t deny Paul Nicholls’ acting. When I watch him act, it makes me tear up. I also really like Jennifer Love Hewitt’s lovely acting”

When did you first use Kiehl’s?
During Sorry Sorry promotions, on radio broadcast I said my skin is very dry. Fans seriously gifted me a lot of Kiehl’s Ultra Facial cream. At that time, it was my first time using a Kiehl’s product. The moisturizing cream is so good, and I liked it so much that afterwards I used Kiehl’s other products for my lipbalm etc.
How did you take part in this Kiehl’s campaign?
I like the people who’re taking part in it with me, especially because my niece Park Minha whom I like very much is in it together with me.
Is there an especially memorable charity act you’ve done?
In 2013 I went to Vietnam with Instyle for a charity edition, fans continued to support the kids and I saw the photos. There are many people who do charity work, and I can see that there’s many reasons why people do it.
What’s your Ultra love?
Those who don’t insist on “Give and Take” – those who don’t anticipate (repayment), don’t you think that those who love unconditionally are the best?
